Don’t Get A[head] of Yourself (Arachne)
Final animatic for Ani 324 story development. We were to make an animatic inspired by the ancient Greek myth of our choice. For my animatic, I chose Arachne.
Original myth: Arachne challenged Athena (goddess of wisdom and crafts) because she's confident in her weaving skills and believes she is better than the gods. In the end, Arachne wins the challenge against Athena, but the goddess turned her into a spider as punishment for her disrespectful behavior and extreme ego.
Here is a full body turnaround sketch of Arachne. Since the name "Arachne" also means spider in Greek, I've incorporated few spider-like qualities to her character design such as the multiple pigtails, oval shaped hips and dark dress.

This is a small digital painting of Arachne. In this painting I wanted to present her conceited personality through the confident smirk on her face and body posture.
This is Arachne's full body character design again, except now she has a bigger head. This is to show that her "ego" is growing larger. The idea of bigger head also came from the thought of a female pregnant spider.
Arachne is talented at weaving clothes (left) and she is talented as a spider weaving a web (right). The main downfall to her success is her ego and you will see what will become of her as you watch the animatic below.
